ICYMI — Recap of the ETHGas x Mr. Block AMA
We recently had the pleasure of joining Mr. Block for an in-depth conversation regarding the technical evolution of ETHGas and our role in scaling Ethereum’. Our founder, Kevin, shared insights into our mission to commoditize blockspace and the engineering behind Realtime Ethereum.
For those who missed the session, fret not. Listen to the recording https://x.com/i/spaces/1MYxNloWjjNGw, or check out our written recap below.

TL;DR
- Engineering 100x Speed:: ETHGas has successfully fragmented Ethereum’s 12-second slots into sub-100ms units, achieving speeds that rival or exceed many L2 solutions directly on the L1.
- MEV Neutralization: By drastically shortening the window for transaction extraction, the protocol is designed to reduce the impact of predatory MEV by approximately 95%.
- $GWEI Governance Philosophy: The recent TGE and one-month lock-up were strategic decisions to prioritize long-term protocol stewardship and decentralized governance via veGWEI.
- Validator Network: 5% of Ethereum’s block space currently flows through the exchange, with partnerships already established with 40% of the validator network.
1. Block Space as the Core Commodity
At the heart of ETHGas is the belief that block space is the single most valuable asset in the crypto-economy. Kevin, drawing on his background in TradFi financial engineering, explained how ETHGas is creating a mature market for this commodity.
"Without blockspace, Ethereum is worth zero. We’re building a market to trade it as a commodity, similar to gas or oil futures in the real world. Whoever owns these blocks can decide which transactions are included, creating a transparent Ethereum blockspace." — Kevin
2. The Engineering of Realtime Ethereum
A major highlight of the discussion was how ETHGas removes the "12-second wait" barrier. By cutting blocks into hundreds of mini-pieces, Ethereum becomes a real-time environment. This doesn't just benefit users; it allows DApps like Uniswap or Aave to function as high-frequency protocols.
Key Takeaway: For end-users, this transition will be seamless. Through upcoming wallet integrations, users will simply see an "Instant" or "Super Fast" transaction option.
3. A Long-Term Approach to $GWEI
Addressing the community's questions regarding the recent TGE and airdrop lock-ups, Kevin emphasized that ETHGas is building infrastructure intended to last for decades. The focus remains on empowering the users who have historically supported Ethereum's growth.
"Governance is a critical part of this. We want the community to hold veGWEI so they can decide the protocol's direction—whether revenue should benefit traders, DApp developers, or the validators providing the space." — Kevin
4. Restoring Fairness: The Death of the MEV Cartel
MEV (Maximum Extractable Value) relies heavily on the 12-second head start that bots have over regular users. By moving to a 50-millisecond real-time environment, that advantage is effectively neutralized.
"In a real-time environment, you aren't losing 100 basis points to MEV; you're losing five. It benefits everyone except those extracting and taking money away from the ecosystem." — Kevin
Looking Ahead: Mr. Block Summit Hong Kong
Kevin will be a featured speaker at the Mr. Block Summit in Hong Kong on February 10th, where the team will be hosting a booth to discuss upcoming integrations and the 2026 roadmap.
